Des Moines Downtown Farmers’ Marketplace is preparing to go virtual with the launch of the Downtown Farmers’ Marketplace Online. Customers will still be able to order fresh, locally grown produce from their favorite vendors, but all transactions will be completed online. Vendors are continually being added, with categories such as art/craft, flowers, baked goods, produce and many more. Vendors can also coordinate pick-up times and location or delivery options with their customers through the program.
On June 16, the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs reopened the doors of the State Historical Museum of Iowa to the public. The Des Moines museum, which helps visitors discover Iowa’s rich heritage through exhibitions, tours, collections, unique events and programs, will be open from Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Hollywood in the Heartland, an examination of Iowa’s legacy with the silver screen from the 1900s to today, and Delicate Balance, which shows how Iowa balances using its natural resources and preserves them, are two of the museum’s various attractions displaying the history of Iowa.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Iowa’s state park system, Travel Iowa created the Iowa State Park Passport. The personalized digital passport tracks your progress as you make your way through the state’s parks, with more than 60 to choose from. Visit a park, check in and get rewards. Those who download the app can earn prizes such as an Iowa State Parks t-shirt, art prints and even a two-night cabin stay at Honey Creek Resort.
Through a collaboration between Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), University of Northern Iowa’s Business and Community Services (BCS) and several other entities, an online COVID-19 impact survey gathered nearly 14,000 responses from business/attraction owners and organizations within the first week. The survey was developed within 36 hours of the initial ask and also made Iowa one of the first states to deploy a state-wide survey. A considerable number of other states inquired about the survey, and BCS provided Iowa’s survey instrument for each request.
